Battlefield 6 Review: The Best Casual Shooter Out There
We live in a time where shooters are either battle royale style or team based e-sports games. It's all about metas and a good kill/death ratio. Battlefield 6 is very different. It feels like a blast from the past in a modern style and it's the most multiplayer fun I have had in years.
Only in Battlefield moments
I sneaked behind enemy lines. All alone I tried to capture objective A but then I saw three enemies appear. My heart starts to race while I scan the environment “What options do I have?” and then I saw it. A tank has spawned! Without thinking twice I ran over to the tank and jumped in. My enemies notice it right away and start to attack me with their bazookas. But i managed to kill all 3 enemies, sadly my tank is down to 20% and more reinforcements arrived.
Quickly I leave the tank and try to find cover. One enemy eats my bait and takes over the tank. The second he enters it I blow him up with my own bazooka shot. Sadly that is it for me even more enemies arrive and I'm overwhelmed. At least my team used all the distraction and chaos I created to take over another objective in the meantime.
Moments like this are part of the magic of Battlefield. I just experienced an unforgettable moment and all of this without the need for insane aiming. Instead Battlefield rewarded me for thinking on my toes and coming up with creative ideas. It's clearly something we don't see in other shooters anymore.

Teamplay is more important than K/D ratio
One of the things I truly love about Battlefield is that it rewards Teamplay way more than K/D Ratio. There are many ways you can contribute to winning a match in Battlefield. First we have 4 different classes. All with different strengths and weaknesses. Having a support player who revives your team is as important as having an engineer who takes care of your or the enemies tanks. But the same goes to the recon classes who don't just snipe enemies from a distance but also have access to drones who can mark enemies on the map very effectively and give you a huge advantage in combat.
But it's not just the classes who allow for teamplay or reward different playstyles. Defending an objective or capturing one rewards you for example with way more points than simply killing enemies. Same goes for repairing a vehicle, or healing and reviving your team mates. But you could also become a specialist in being a pilot or a tank driver. All roles on the Battlefield are equally important and Dice, the developer of Battlefield, does a good job of rewarding all elements in the same way.

Battlefield 6 a casual pvp shooter?
Now, I get it — some of you will be confused by me calling Battlefield a casual shooter but let me explain. In the past 10 years shooters have become very competitive and toxic. For one there is the Team Based Shooters. Games like Counter Strike, Valorant and Overwatch. Those games are clearly focused on E-Sports.
With the rise of streamers the player base has become much more competitive. Nowadays even in the lowest ranks players know the meta builds or combos. They warm up with aim training software before playing and become very fast and very toxic if the game doesn't go their way. For most people it's not possible anymore to just come online and have fun in those games. If you're not up to date with the meta or the strategies chances are you’re going to get attacked and flamed.
The other group of games are Battle Royale style. So games like Fortnite or Apex Legends. Now it's undeniable that Fortnite also attracts casual gamers and I'm sure some have fun with it. However I would argue that the Gamemode itself is very frustrating for casuals. Only having 1 life and losing the whole round when you die is punishing in itself and requires a lot of practice and a learning curve to get to a point where you can have fun in those games.
Now if we look at Battlefield 6 instead, I would argue it’s way more casual-friendly. First of all, dying doesn't have a huge consequence. You can respawn within seconds and try again. Second as i explained above you dont need to be good at shooters to be good at Battlefield. There are plenty of ways for you to be useful for your team in BF6. So much so that I would say that there is a role for any kind of player in Battlefield that they would enjoy. Even if you end up with 4/16 stats. If you helped defend objectives, revived your teammates or even just supported the people around you with ammunition or marking enemies you still have been an important part of your team's win.

Battlefield 6 is Cinema
Last but not least Battlefield 6 presentation, graphics, destructive environments and audio design are just one of a kind. Playing the game is simply intensive, makes your blood pump faster and is pure excitement. Pair that with those typical battlefield moments like shooting down a helicopter with your bazooka in a one in a million shot and seeing it crashing down right in front of you and you have a one of a kind online experience.
So far I played 50 hours and also the experience with the community has been amazing as well. In all my time in Battlefield I may encounter 5 toxic messages. Other than that players were supportive and even playing with random onlines often results in a great teamplay experience. It’s a stark contrast to other online games.
Does all of this make Battlefield 6 a perfect game? Well there are always things to be improved. Some of the class challenges are frustrating and unbalanced and when it comes to the maps I still see room for improvement. Also the topic of bloom with weapons is a hot topic in the community right now.
But all of this said Battlefield 6 is easily the most multiplayer fun I had in years. It's refreshing to play a pvp game that rewards teamplay more than individual skill and to see a community that embraces this mindset. I’m pretty sure Battlefield 6 will be my go-to multiplayer game for years to come and I look forward to seeing where the game will go next.
