The Gaming Year 2025: Game of the Year
The Gaming Year 2025 has been a very special year for me. We not only got a lot of quality game releases and the launch of the switch 2, but it's also been the year I started this website and started reviewing games. So let's take a look at my games of the year 2025.
Game of the Year 2025
5th Place: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Now to be honest this 5th place is the most tricky decision for me. There are many games down in the honorable mentions that could have ended up here and I think if i would have more time this spot could have gone to Trials in the Sky or Octopath Traveler 0. However I simply didn't had enough time to play those.
Clair Obscur was off to a rough start with me. The beginning felt rushed and I couldn't connect with most characters, even if the voice acting and dialogue is some of the best in Videogaming.
Also the gameplay itself couldn't fully win me over. I did like the parry and dodge mechanics, but they were simply too powerful. For me JRPGs are about fun class combinations and builds. But those matter little when parry and dodge are so powerful.
So why did Expedition 33 still end up in 5th place? In simple words it's the story that got it here. In the last few hours the game becomes very personal and takes many twists and turns that hooked me. This is one of the few videogames where I feel like a movie adoption could become better than the game itself.
4th Place: Kirby Air Riders

Kirby Air Riders is in many ways my biggest surprise of the Year. I watched two full Nintendo Directs about the game before release and while I liked what I saw, I still wasn't sure that the game would be for me.
I still took the plunge and bought it and damn I'm glad I did. My biggest surprise about Kirby Air Riders was the singleplayer mode road trip. I didn't expect such a wild and fleshed out singleplayer mode.
It kept me on my toes and I felt surprised at all times. Even if my fun with it was rather short, I'm glad I got to experience it.
3rd Place: Battlefield 6

Battlefield 2 was my favorite online shooter of all time and I'm glad to report that Battlefield 6 is a true return to form. To me it feels like a modern version of Battlefield 2. The online works smooth, progression is fun and gameplay feels on point.
I already played the game for over 100 hours and there is surely way more to come. Since its launch it's pretty much my go to game when I just want to have fun.
2nd Place: Blue Prince

If this wouldn't be my personal blog and I would try to be fully objective then I think Blue Prince should be the Game of the Year. I never played a game that was so smartly done. The mix of roguelike, puzzle mystery and smart story telling is something completely unique.
It's a game that can feel very RNG dependent in the beginning but once you learn its rules you learn that nothing is as it seems. If you're taking anything from this article then let it be this. Play Blue Prince blind!
The only reason it's not in my number one spot is that there was one game that made it in my Top 10 of all time and Blue Prince isn't fully there for me.
Honorable Mentions

Before we get to the Number one spot, I still have to mention a few games that didn't make it into my top 5. Octopath Travel 0 had a strong start and I really enjoyed what I played so far. However I'm only 10 Hours in and that's not enough to put it on this list.
Donkey Kong Bananza was an amazingly creative 3d Platformer, but overall the game had a little bit too much repetition to make it into the top 5. Lastly, Inuzuma Eleven has been one of my biggest surprises of the year. A great football anime game that's only held back by stretched content.
1st Place: Hollow Knight Silksong

I've been into gaming for over 30 years. I love all kinds of genres and games, but nowadays it's rare for a game to really get its hooks into me. I usually play 2 or 3 games at the same time, jumping from one to the other as I always feel like I need variety.
But sometimes there is a game that consumes all of my attention. That I think about even when I can't play. Games like Zelda Breath of the Wild or Elden Ring. It's rare and only a few real Masterpieces make me feel this way. Hollow Knight Silksong is now one of those.
Silksong is a real passion project. Crafted with love and care. Everything in this game feels just right. The smooth movement, the well balanced difficulty curve, the detailed world and level design. It's really one of those rare games where I couldn't think of a single thing that could have been better.
All I can say is Thank you to Team Cherry, for letting me experience such an amazing masterpiece and please never change the way you are.
Closing words
I was thinking of adding a "Disappointments of the Year” section but honestly I rather end the year on a good note. For me it ended up being an amazing year for gaming. With Battlefield 6 I had the most multiplayer fun in years and Blue Prince and Hollow Knight Silksongs are two true Masterpieces.
I'm also really happy with the Switch 2. It's an amazing piece of hardware that has already brought me a lot of joy. Lastly I want to say thank you to anyone who visited Kasurgaming this year. It's been a lifelong dream of mine to talk about games I love in this way. I don't know if this will ever turn into something bigger, but I'm glad I started and I'm truly happy about every single person who reads this.
